The most atmospheric place to stay in Prince Edward County, full stop. Built in 1878 for Edwards Merrill, the first magistrate of Prince Edward County, the Gothic Revival mansion on Picton’s Main Street has been thoughtfully restored into a 14-room boutique hotel with a wine cellar holding over 300 bottles, a conservatory bar, an outdoor sauna, rolling art exhibitions, and a French restaurant.
Every room is individually designed — no two are the same. The hotel leans fully into its darker history with a dedicated haunted room if that is your thing, or several more quietly beautiful options if it is not. It is the kind of place that has a personality before you even unpack.

The June Motel — Picton
The property that put PEC boutique accommodation on the radar and has stayed relevant because it earned it. Tropical wallpaper, mid-century touches, a lobby bar pouring local wines and PEC brews, nightly campfire and s’mores, Saturday morning yoga, and a staff concierge who can build you a custom winery itinerary. It overlooks Picton Bay and has a genuinely social atmosphere that suits couples and friend groups.

The Manse — Picton
The quiet, elegant option for anyone who wants boutique without the scene. The Manse is a smaller, more intimate property in the centre of Picton, walkable to restaurants and the harbour. It attracts an adult crowd by the nature of what it is: a beautifully kept historic building where the point is rest, not programming.
Rooms are individually styled and the property has the kind of considered, unhurried feel that is harder to find as PEC gets busier every season. If Merrill House or The June are fully booked for your dates, this is not a consolation prize.

A Note on Staying in Belleville
Multiple people in every PEC travel conversation bring up staying in Belleville when the County itself is full. It is a legitimate option if you have a car — Belleville is roughly 20 to 30 minutes from Picton depending on where you are headed. But go in with clear eyes. Belleville is a city, not a County village, and the drive across adds up over a weekend. If you can get something inside PEC, even something modest, it will generally be a more cohesive trip.
Two County Classics Worth Knowing About
Since we are talking about PEC, a quick note on two things that were here long before the boutique hotels arrived and deserve acknowledgment — mainly because they are genuinely great.
Campbell’s Orchards in Carrying Place has been a County institution since 1969. Third-generation family operation with a farm market, bakery, sugar shack, and Apple Falls Cider Company on-site, making small-batch hard cider from orchard apples using traditional methods. The English-style dry cider is genuinely one of a kind in the region. Worth a stop.
The Mustang Drive-In in Bloomfield has been running since the mid-1950s and recently changed hands to two chefs who committed to keeping it a working theatre rather than developing the nine-acre site. It runs double features Wednesday through Sunday from late June through the end of August. A carload of up to five people gets in for $30. In a County that can feel very expensive very quickly, that is a good evening.
