The Best Places to Stay in Prince Edward County for Adults

Prince Edward County (aka PEC) is genuinely one of the most beautiful places in Ontario, and it has been for a very long time.

If you are going (yay!), and you are looking for a stay that feels like it was designed for adults who want fun, quiet, a good night’s sleep (and possibly wine, I don’t drink it but you can!), the options have genuinely gotten very good.

Here are the ones worth knowing about, with a note that PEC books out fast. Faster than most people expect. If you have a specific weekend in mind, move on it sooner rather than later.

Merrill House — Picton

Merrill House

The most atmospheric option in the County, full stop. Built in 1878 for Edwards Merrill, the first magistrate of Prince Edward County, the Gothic Revival mansion on Picton’s Main Street has been thoughtfully restored into a 14-room boutique hotel with a wine cellar that holds over 300 bottles, a conservatory bar, an outdoor sauna, rolling art exhibitions, and a French restaurant.

Every room is individually designed, no two are the same, and the hotel leans fully into its darker history with a dedicated haunted room if that’s your thing, or several more quietly beautiful options if it isn’t.

The June Motel — Picton

The June Motel

The one that put PEC boutique accommodation on a lot of people’s radar and has stayed relevant because it actually earned it. Two friends bought an old fishing motel in 2016, the sign had previously read “please don’t gut the fish in the room,” and turned it into a 16-room boutique property built entirely around wine country living.

Tropical wallpaper, mid-century touches, a lobby bar pouring local wines and PEC brews, nightly campfire and s’mores, Saturday morning yoga, and a staff concierge who can build you a custom winery itinerary.

It overlooks Picton Bay and has a genuinely social atmosphere. It is open seasonally from mid-March through November and books up early for summer weekends. Worth noting: rooms are designed for two, and the vibe skews firmly toward couples and friend groups rather than families.

The Manse — Picton

The Manse

Consistently mentioned as a quiet, elegant option in Picton and worth including for anyone who wants something boutique without the scene. The Manse is a smaller, more intimate property that attracts an adult crowd by the nature of what it is: a beautifully kept historic building in the centre of town, walkable to restaurants and the harbour.

Wander The Resort — Bloomfield

Wander Prince Edward County

A newer upscale cabin resort with pool and lake views outside Wellington, consistently appearing in best-of lists for adult-oriented PEC stays. The cabin format gives it a privacy-first feel that suits couples and small groups who want to be on the water with a private beach experience.

Hotel Karydia — Picton

Hotel Karydia

A luxury private guesthouse in Picton that operates more like a high-end inn than a traditional hotel. Small, intimate, and deliberately quiet. Worth checking for availability if Merrill House or The June are booked out for your dates.

A Note on Staying in Belleville

Multiple people in every PEC travel conversation bring up staying in Belleville when the County itself is full. It is a legitimate option if you have a car. Belleville is roughly 20 to 30 minutes from Picton depending on where you are headed but it is worth going in with clear eyes. Belleville is a city, not a County village, and the drive across adds up over a weekend.

If you can get something inside PEC, even something modest, it will generally be a more cohesive trip.

Before You Go: 2 County Classics That Predate the Tourism Wave

Since we are talking about PEC, a quick note on two things that were here long before the boutique hotels arrived and deserve acknowledgment for it, mainly because I love them so much.

Campbell’s Orchards in Carrying Place has been a County institution since 1969. Third-generation family operation. Farm market, bakery, sugar shack, and Apple Falls Cider Company on-site, making small-batch hard cider from orchard apples using traditional methods. The English-style dry cider is genuinely one of a kind in the region. Worth a stop.

The Mustang Drive-In in Bloomfield has been running since the mid-1950s and recently changed hands again, this time to two chefs who committed to keeping it a working theatre rather than developing the nine-acre site. It runs double features Wednesday through Sunday from late June through the end of August. A carload of up to five people gets in for $30. In a County that can feel very expensive very quickly, that is a good evening.
